As I reflect on my internship at Octave Holdings and Investments, I have come to appreciate
how it has exposed me to various facets of the business field through diverse projects. The
experiences, mentorship, and projects tasked to me have not only refined my skills but also
granted me a profound understanding of the dynamic realm of real estate. Among my projects,
two topics stood out: filling vacancies in the Lakeland Property and enhancing the investor portal
app through bug identification and recommending improvements. Therefore, I chose to dive
deeper into these projects and analyze them in this blog post.
During my internship, a significant responsibility I undertook was providing tenant
recommendations for one of the vacancies in the Lakeland Plaza. Adopting a strategic approach,
my teammate and I visited the property to gain firsthand knowledge of its environment and
surroundings, enabling us to provide informed recommendations. Our aim was to develop an
efficient process that encompassed filling vacancies while offering management improvement
suggestions. Leveraging the proximity of the Northside Hospital Forsyth, we proposed attracting
a medical tenant like Quest Diagnostics to capitalize on the nearby consumer base. Additionally,
we identified the need to address landscaping issues that diminished the plaza’s attractiveness.
By honing my real estate and marketing skills, this project highlighted the importance of swift
and effective tenant placement.
Another project I actively engaged in was collaborating with Somya and fellow interns, such as
Nagesh, to enhance the functionality of the investor portal app. While Nagesh focused on
resolving Android-related issues, I dedicated my efforts to troubleshooting and documenting
bugs encountered on the iPhone version. By collaborating closely with the development team in
the office and in India, we worked to propose and recommend improvements to enhance user
experience, streamline operations, and foster stronger investor engagement. This experience
provided me with an appreciation for the iterative nature of software development and the vital
role of user feedback in refining digital tools.
As I am nearing the end of my internship, I am genuinely grateful for the valuable opportunities
and insights gained from exploring a range of compelling topics. Specifically, the
aforementioned projects have demonstrated firsthand how my projects contribute to Octave HI’s
overall growth and success. Through this internship, my skills have been sharpened, and my
understanding of the intricacies of real estate operations has deepened. I eagerly anticipate
utilizing these acquired skills in future endeavors, both at Octave HI and in my professional
journey ahead.
